Elementary Battle of the Books

PES is proud to particpate in the DCS EBOB competition.

Elementary Battle of the Books is a program sponsored by the North Carolina School Library Association to promote reading and to expose fourth and fifth grade students to quality literature in a wide range of genres.  A team is selected from participating students to compete in a district-wide competition which is held at Davie High School in the spring.

Teams of fourth and fifth graders read books from a predetermined reading list of twelve titles.  During the competition, the teams are asked questions about the books.  After conferring with their teammates, students then must give the correct title and author of the book.  This club is a great way for students to learn cooperation and negotion skills.

In order to compete in March, participants need to read all twelve titles and score 80% or higher on the AR test by the end of Feb.  Participants also need to write 5 questions for each book. All interested students are welcome to practice during lunch time until the team is set.  Instead of meeting after school, 4th and 5th graders meet during their lunch times in the media center.
