Thursday, August 17 - DCHS Ribbon Cutting Ceremony & Tours!
I hold degrees from Appalachian State University (BA Sociology) and UNC-Greensboro (BSW). I also completed teacher education course work at Catawba College and hold a School Social Work License and a 6-9 teaching license in Social Studies. I’ve worked for Davie County Schools for 30+ years in a variety of positions and have been a school social worker since 1992. I am currently the Lead School Social Worker, Homeless LEA Liaison, Dropout Prevention Coordinator, Disciplinary Data Coordinator and maintain a caseload of Pregnant and Parenting students. My goal is to assist our students and their families in becoming productive citizens of the 21st century.
I was born and raised in Davie County. I attended Davie County Schools as do both my children. I attended Appalachian State University where I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. My first job was with the Surry County Health Department where I worked with families of high risk infants and children. In 1995 I was hired by the Davie County Health Department where I spent 12 years. While there I coordinated services for pregnant women and provided health education services. I also managed Healthy Carolinians of Davie County; a task force that works to devise a plan to improve Davie County’s future health needs. In August 2007 I was hired by the Davie County Schools as a school social worker. As a life long Davie County resident, student, parent, and employee, I am very familiar with the county and the resources that are available to our students and their families. My goal as a school social worker is to be a useful link between home and school for the students and families of Davie County.

I am originally from Boone, N.C. but relocated to Mocksville, NC in 2008 when my husband, Justin, and I were married. I received my Bachelor of Social Work degree and school social work licensure from Appalachian State University in 2009. I continued on to obtain my Master of Arts in Human Services degree, with a concentration in Marriage and Family, from Liberty University. After college, I worked for Surry Community College’s Educational Opportunity Center, in Davie and Yadkin Counties, where I assisted low-income and first generation individuals with continuing their education in GED, college diploma and college degree programs. Later, I accepted a position as a Social Worker III in the Child Protective Services Unit at Davie County DSS. I had the opportunity to work with children and families in many areas, including: CPS Investigations/Assessments, CPS In-Home Services, Foster Home Licensing and Adoptions. What I enjoyed most during my time with Davie DSS was working with families of Davie County, in their homes, on strengthening parenting skills and assisting them with identifying new parenting tools and strategies that would benefit their family. In August 2014, I was beyond thrilled to come on board with Davie County Schools as a School Social Worker. I look forward to continuing my work with children and families of Davie County and hope to be a positive liaison between students, parents and the schools.

I enjoy working with the Ellis staff and students. My goal is to help your child become a successful adult. My main areas of concentration are on attendance and helping students/families access needed resources. I also work closely with the school counselor and school nurse.
Some things that might be helpful:
Always send a note when your child is absent. Absences are excused with notes due to lawful reasons (see DCS Policy 4400). Students with 6 or more unexcused absences is a concern so I will be contacting students and parents to discuss ways we can improve attendance. If you have questions about attendance feel free to email me.
Also, tardies (late to school) and leave earlies that are unexcused accumulate and school consequences are imposed. Please be sure to return with a doctor note if your child has been to see the doctor/dentist/other medical provider.
From time to time we all need a helping hand. I know the community well and there may be resources available that would benefit your student/family. Again, I am happy to discuss this with you and help you connect to those resources.
Please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns.
