Weekend Food Bags

The PTO of Shady Grove Elementary School piloted a new program called the 'Book Bags of Hope' in 2006. The goal was to help cut out hunger for the children of Davie County by providing child-friendly food for students for the weekend. Volunteers bought food, sorted and put the food into book bags for each student in need. 
 
Since then, the same concept has spread to almost all of our schools through the Book Bags of Hope and Backpack Buddies programs. Volunteers and partners, including several churches, make these programs possible through donations and the work involved in preparing the book bags. Davie High School participates through the Davie High School’s Hunger Fighters, while the Mocksville Elementary volunteers also take care of students at Central Davie Academy.  You may contact the school’s coordinator for more information:
