Interim Superintendent Announced
We are pleased to announce that the Board of Education has selected Dr. William “Bill” Steed to lead the Davie County Schools as interim superintendent beginning on January 1, 2019. Dr. Steed, a former Davie County superintendent who also filled in as interim superintendent prior to the hiring of Dr. Hartness, brings years of experience along with his demonstrated commitment to the citizens of Davie County. Chairman Clint Junker said, "We feel lucky to have his steady and wise leadership as we move to the next chapter in our storied history."
Dr. Steed will serve while the board conducts the search for the next superintendent. The board is actively engaging in community and staff input and will receive applications through January 7, 2019. The selection of the next superintendent is scheduled to conclude near the end of April 2019.
Davie County School Board Seeks Public Input on Superintendent Search
The Davie County Board of Education voted on October 2 to hire the North Carolina School Boards Association (NCSBA) to help facilitate its search for the next superintendent of the Davie County Schools (DCS). To that end, the board is seeking direct input from interested members of the staff and community to help shape the search process and assist in defining the qualities and characteristics of the next DCS superintendent. The following avenues for input are available to the community and staff:
Community Survey. The board invites parents and community members to participate in a short community survey that can be accessed and completed online via links on the DCS webpage: www.davie.k12.nc.us. Paper copies of the survey also may be found in the main office at Davie County Schools, 220 Cherry Street in Mocksville. Completed paper surveys should be returned to Stephanie Koefoed, Davie County Schools, 220 Cherry Street, Mocksville, NC 27028. All surveys must be completed by Friday, December 14, 2018, with results to be compiled, summarized, and presented by NCSBA at the regular board meeting on Monday, January 8, 2018. Staff Survey. In addition, all employees of DCS will have an opportunity to complete a separate online staff survey. Details about completing the employee version of the search survey were communicated via school system email.
Public Comment. Citizens may also sign up to address the board during the public comment period at any of the upcoming regular board meetings. All meetings will be held in the Board Room at the Central Davie Education Center, located at 220 Martin Luther King Jr. Road, Mocksville, NC. Citizens must sign up to speak before the meeting begins and must otherwise comply with board policy/guidelines (see policy 2310: Public Participation at Board Meetings).
Statements from Groups or Organizations. Groups or organizations that would like to submit statements regarding the leadership qualities that they consider important in the next superintendent may submit such statements to Allison Schafer via mail at NCSBA, P.O. Box 97877, Raleigh, NC 27624, via email at firstname.lastname@example.org, or via fax at 919-841-4020. These statements should be received no later than Friday, December 14, 2018.
